Australia's money just got a little bit greener

The Royal Australian Mint in Canberra recently signed an agreement with Origin Energy to install and manage one of the largest solar PPA installations in the country. (PPA - Power Purchase Agreement)

Once the substantial solar power system is installed on the Mint's expansive 900 sq. metre roof it will comprise of over 920 solar panels.

The 263 kW system will help to reduce the Royal Australian Mint's power costs and decrease the building's greenhouse gas emissions.

The power giant Origin Energy won the tender to install, operate and manage the solar PV system through the 15 year Power Purchase Agreement. The agreement allows Origin to sell back the power generated to the Mint at a 5c discount.

It is planned that the solar power system will be up and running by the end of the year. The undertaking in hoped to encourage other large business to consider solar power as a viable long-term power generation option.
